[Pascale had a really hard day. Her school friends hug her a lot, and she sometimes runs out of patience with them. On this day, she wound up rejecting a bear hug with a punch and a bite. Not good. We discussed alternate ways of coping, and she was looking pretty dejected after the conversation. I gave her a hug.]

Well, P… I’m sorry you had such a tough day today.

Mummy, it was not your fault I had a tough day. It was my fault.

I know – and I’m glad you can see that. But I guess what I meant is that I’m sad you had a hard time today.

It’s ok. I will make tomorrow better.
